Is housing provided?

Housing is not provided.  Housing options close to Columbia's campus tend to fill rather quickly in the summer, so we recommend you book your accommodations as early as possible.

While on-campus housing is not available, we recommend STSI participants visit the sites below to help meet their housing needs. In addition, we will create a private website for accepted participants where we will post STSI related materials. This site is also being used for STSI participants to meet one another (virtually) and discuss the possibility of sharing housing options they may come across.

Housing Options

While we encourage you to reside on Columbia's campus during the STSI, all participants will be given an unlimited Metrocard, which will allow you unlimited access to the City's 24-hour subway and bus system as well as easy access to the University.  Please contact us at stsi@columbia.edu of you have any housing questions or conerns.

Are meals provided?

The Institute will provide snacks and beverages during some seminar meetings and outings as well as some planned group meals. We will also provide continental breakfast most seminar mornings. Participants must handle all other meals on their own. We suggest you budget $10-15 for daily lunch and $10-20 for dinner. Please inform us immediately upon acceptance if you have any food allergies and/or dietary restrictions we should be aware of.

Is transportation provided?

While IRAAS' STSI will provide transportation to and from most outings throughout the duration of the Institute, participants need to arrange transportation to/from New York City and to/from the airport or train/bus station. As mentioned before, you will be given an unlimited MetroCard to use during your stay. This non-refundable card will allow you to ride New York City's 24-hour subway and bus system. As a group, we will partake in walking and museum tours of various New York City sites and neighborhoods.
